Bacteria
Some kinds of streptococcus or staphylococcus cause bacterial conjunctivitis. It is usually spread through contact with other individuals or insects and poor hygiene. This condition results in a sticky and thick discharge from the eye, which may require antibiotic eye drops for treatment.
Aside from eye drop, children can make use of ointment, as this is easier to apply. When antibiotics are used, the symptoms of the condition will begin to leave. The common symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis are tearing, light sensitivity, irritation, blurred vision, and intolerance to contact lenses.
