Chemicals
Different types of chemicals can cause conjunctivitis. When chemicals like chlorine come in contact with the eye, it leads to red-eye. Chlorine causes red-eye by stripping off the tear film that protects the cornea. It may also lead to irritated eyes, resulting from the removal of the tear film.
Usually, this condition is temporal, and the eye returns to its normal state with time. Other foreign substances aside from chlorine may lead to temporal redness of the eye. Rinsing the eye with water is an effective and easy technique to keep chemical irritants from the eye.
