What Causes Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)?

Viruses

Viral conjunctivitis is highly infectious, and it is mostly due to adenovirus. Generally, adenoviruses are a group of prominent viruses that infect the lining of the human eye, urinary tract, nervous system, and urinary tract. Aside from pink eyes, the viruses are common causes of coughs, fevers, and sore throat.

Some of the symptoms of viral conjunctivitis are watery discharge, photophobia, and irritation. It is highly advised for individuals with the condition to avoid transmitting it. Hence, doctors recommend the use of hand sanitizers. According to the American Optometric Association [2], eye drops or ointments wouldn’t cure viral conjunctivitis. It usually clears up over time.
