Allergies

Allergens are significant causes of conjunctivitis. When conjunctivitis occurs due to eye inflammation, it is called allergic conjunctivitis [3]. The condition is caused by allergic reactions to substances like mold spores or pollen. Most individuals experience irritation from allergens during hay fever season, and it is one of the most common causes of red-eye.
There are two different types of allergic conjunctivitis, which are acute allergic conjunctivitis and chronic allergic conjunctivitis. Acute allergic conjunctivitis is a short-term condition that is very common during the allergy season. It causes the eyelids to itch, swell, and burn.
On the other hand, chronic allergic conjunctivitis can occur at any time in the year and occurs due to animal dander, dust, or food. Light sensitivity, burning, and itching are common symptoms of chronic allergic conjunctivitis.
