Treatments for Deviated Septum
In most cases, doctors advise their patients to take drugs to improve the symptoms. If the symptoms exacerbate, then surgery is needed. Treatments given to patients with a deviated septum are:
Over-the-counter drugs
If you are having mild and manageable symptoms, your doctor may prescribe over-the-counter drugs which include decongestants, nasal steroid sprays, and antihistamines. However, these drugs do not treat the main cause of pain and can only give temporary relief.
Antihistamines
The major purpose of antihistamine is to treat allergic reactions such as congested and runny noses. However, there are cases where these drugs are used for non-allergic symptoms such as those related to the common cold.
Doctors advise patients that engage in physical activities that require coordination such as driving or using heavy equipment to avoid using a certain antihistamine.
