What Is Sclerotherapy?

After Sclerotherapy

To make sure you don’t have a negative reaction to the injected material, your doctor may ask you to stay lying down for another 15 minutes or so after your treatment.

You’ll be able to go home by yourself. You can resume your usual activities, particularly walking.

To compress the treated vasculature, you should wear support socks or compression wraps for three to seven days. If your doctor advises wearing heavy compression pantyhose, support stockings bought from a department store might not be effective.

For 48 hours after your procedure, follow these guidelines:

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory medications [5]. You may take acetaminophen if you need it for pain relief.
  • Don’t take hot baths or sit in a whirlpool or sauna. You may take showers, but the water should be cooler than usual.
  • Wash the injection sites with mild soap and lukewarm water.
  • Don’t apply hot compresses or any form of heat to the treated areas.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight (including sun tanning and tanning beds).
  • Call your provider if you have any concerns or questions after your procedure.
