Possible Complications of Subareolar Breast Abscess

There are cases where abscesses and infections recur, after they have been treated with antibiotics. If this happens, your doctor will need to perform surgery to remove the affected glands and stop recurrence.
A common complication that may occur even after treatment with antibiotics is a deformation of the areola or nipple. They may also be pushed off-center by the abscess, causing cosmetic damage. Nipple inversion can also occur. Surgery can be done to correct this.
Nipple problems or abscesses don’t necessarily mean that you have breast cancer. However, it is still important to contact your doctor if you suspect a subareolar breast abscess.
There is a chance that you have breast cancer, if you are not breastfeeding. And you have an infection in your breast. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), [6] inflammatory breast cancer can be mistaken for an infection.
