When Do Babies Begin to See Colors?

The ability of a baby to see and identify colors becomes developed when they are five months old. This color vision is however not as clear as an adult’s own. Before the fifth month, they are already able to identify some set of colors.

The first color a child perceives is the red color and this happens a few weeks after the birth of the child. Between the second and the fourth month, babies are able to identify the difference between the red and green color.

When they are five months old, they begin to identify different ranges of colors. Their depth of perception also increases and it makes it easier for them to identify colors. They begin to have preference for colors at this age.
