How to Calculate Running Cadence?

Your run cadence is evaluated in strides per minute. You can discover your present running cadence using various methods:

  • Count how many times your left foot lands on the floor in 30 seconds, then multiply it by 2 to get the value for 60 seconds, then multiply that by 2 again to get the value for your left and right feet.
  • You can measure your running cadence with different types of watches.
  • Other wearable equipment evaluate running metrics like cadence.

If you are a recreational runner, your cadence is usually within 150 to 170 strides per minute. In rare cases, it may extend to 180 strides per minute. If you over stride, your cadence will be less than 160s strides per minute. Any improvement in your cadence is accompanied by an improvement in your strides.
