Catfish imported from Vietnam are usually poisoned with antibiotics that are prohibited in the United States. Not many people in the country know, so the demand for it continues to increase. In fact, it is referred to as one of the filthiest fish. A study discovered that about 80% of imported catfish are contaminated with Vibrio bacteria, one of the most popular factors responsible for contaminating abdominal pain [4], vomiting, fever [5], skin infection, and diarrhea [6]. Studies show that this bacteria is responsible for causing about 80,000 illnesses and 100 deaths in the United States yearly.

Imported catfish have destructive effects in river and wetland life. They swim in waste and are often treated with pesticides, antibiotics, and disinfectants. While most of this fish may appear fancy and luxurious, consuming them may result in various health conditions. If a restaurant serves you this fish and you get food poisoning, you can theoretically sue the restaurant.
