Manuka Honey – Benefits & Use

Antibacterial Action

Scientists at the University of Sydney, Australia, have found that this honey contains a substance highly toxic to bacteria. The element would also be contraindicated for humans were it not for the other components of Manuka, which cancel out such harmful action. Honey is often used to treat wounds and/or skin diseases (such as eczema, dermatitis, burns, ulcers, and Fu’s gangrene), not only because of its antibacterial properties, but also because of its other reported properties, such as immunostimulant, or inflammatory activity, promotion of autolytic debridement, stimulation of the growth of injured tissue to accelerate healing and promote the healing process of dormant wounds, as well as the described anti-inflammatory function. Scholars hope that, in the future, products sterilized with this honey can replace ointments in the treatment of skin conditions. [4]
