Omega-3s Fatty Acids

There are two types of omega-3 fatty acids, including:
– Alpha-linolenic acid or ALA: this is an essential omega-3 fatty acid. You can only absorb it from the diet.
– Long-chain omega-3 includes docosahexaenoic acid or DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA. Both can be produced by the body from ALA.
Long-chain omega plays an important part in the eyes and brain health. A deficiency might lead to higher risks of ADHA, breast cancer, depression, and inflammation. Foods high in ALA include soybeans, hemp seeds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flax seeds. DHA and EPA can be found in animal products, such as fish oil and fatty fish. [6]
