Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MADP)

What Is the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period?

The Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period is now known as the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. According to experts, it is a period when anyone under a Medicare Advantage Plan (MAP) can move to another MAP or to an alternative (Medigap policy) using a Part D program. During this period, you can also move to an Original Medicare without using a Part D plan (prescription drug coverage) or supplement. Moving to an original Medicare will reduce the level of coverage you had in your Medicare Advantage Plan.

Since the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period is available from January 1 to March 31 of each year, people who enrolled in the plan in the first few months of the year can start planning for a shift early. You find out early that your provider is not involved in the plan anymore early, and this gives you time to make the right decisions for yourself.
