Medicare-For-All vs. Single Payer: What You Need To Know

Merits And Demerits Of Single Payer Healthcare System

The major merit of the single payer healthcare system is that the medical expenses of a large number of people are covered. Under Medicare, people who are below the age of 65 years are not covered by the plan. This makes a large population of people pay for healthcare services they receive.

Medicare-for-all covers a very wide range of medical services received. They cover mental health services, prenatal and postnatal services [5] and so many other services that might not be covered by any other plan.

A major demerit of Medicare-for-all is the payment of very high taxes. As explained, Medicare-for-all does not allow you to pay for any healthcare services you receive. You also won’t pay monthly premiums. The money used to cover your expenses are paid from your taxes. This leads to an increase in the amount of tax you pay monthly.
