What Is the QI Medicare Savings Program?

QI and Medicare

The QI is a program for individuals under Medicare with Part A and Part B. It is used to pay for your Part B premiums. The normal monthly premium was $148.50 in 2021. You can count on the QI program to pay this cost if you are eligible.

The QI program won’t affect your Part A costs, but most individuals don’t pay a premium for Part A anyway. Thus, if you possess the original Medicare and Part A program without a premium, you can qualify for the QI program and your total premium every month would be $0.

The QI program can only work with original Medicare. Therefore, it won’t change any Medicare supplement (Medigap) or Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan you choose to purchase. Individuals who are eligible for the program will automatically qualify for certain services with Medicare Part D (prescription coverage) through the Medicare Extra Help program.
