How to qualify for QI

You will qualify for the Medicare QI program if your income meets the criteria. The income limits for the QI program in 2021 were $1,469 every month for individuals and $1,980 for married couples. Alaska and Hawaii have higher income limits. You must also be below or at the resource limit. In 2021, the resource limit for individuals and married couples were $7,970 and $11,960 respectively.
Examples of resources are stocks and bank accounts. High-value goods such as a car or home are not seen as resources in Medicare.
It would help to know that the income limits can change every year and depend on the federal poverty level (FPL). The FPL is evaluated via data such as the cost of living and the average salary in each state. Many Programs use the FPL as a criterion for people to qualify for plans such as the Medicare QI.
You cannot access QI benefits if you are eligible for Medicaid. However, you can still enroll in the program using your state Medicaid office. The office will choose which program you can access.
