Overview
Over the years, many developments have been made to prevent and treat diabetes. A new drug, known as Teplizumab, was created recently to help prevent or slow down the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Many diabetes researchers refer to the medication as revolutionary because of its significant effects on type 1 diabetes.
Teplizumab is a new medication created by New Jersey-based Prevention Bio. This medication prevents the onset of type 1 diabetes. It can also slow down the onset by 2 to 5 years. An advisory committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was created in May 2021 to recommend the approval of Teplizumab for diabetes treatment. Although the FDA did not approve the administration of this drug for diabetes, provention continues to make further development to improve the medication. Scientists refer to this drug as the most important diabetes invention after home blood glucose metered was used to replace urine testing.
On July 2, 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a response letter stating the different sections it wanted the company to focus on before approving Teplizumab. According to research, this is the first drug ever created that has the ability to prevent type 1 diabetes.
