Check for Sugar in Canned Foods and Read Labels

Canned foods can be a useful and affordable addition to your diet, but they also tend to contain a lot of added sugar.
Avoid canned foods that are packed in syrup or have sugar on the ingredient list. Fruit is sweet enough, so choose the ones labeled “no added sugar” or “packed in water.”
If you buy canned fruit or vegetables that do have added sugar, you can remove some of it by rinsing them in water before you eat them.
Eating less sugar goes beyond simply avoiding sweet foods. Fortunately food manufacturers are now required to disclose added sugars on food labels. You will see added sugars listed under total carbohydrates on foods that contain them.
Make it a habit to check the ingredients list for sugars. And avoid ones with excess sugar content.
