Asthma [2] is a chronic condition that causes inflammation of the airways. It may result in symptoms such as wheezing and breathing problems.
Your airways enlarge and tighten when you have a severe asthma episode. Without prompt treatment, the airways may grow too narrow and prevent oxygen from reaching the body.
A trigger for an asthma episode could be:

- strong smells
- stressful situation
