Foods to Eat and Avoid with Osteoporosis

Salty Foods

Salty foods are high in sodium, a mineral that causes the body to lose calcium and can lead to weak bones. Most foods with high amounts of salt are processed foods and canned foods. You can also determine the amount of salt you want in your diet by adding to foods you eat daily. Studies have shown that a significantly higher percentage of our salt intake does not come from our homemade foods but processed foods.

It is a good idea to check the nutritional value of the foods you eat. If the label lists 20% or more sodium value, it is high in sodium and should be avoided. The body only needs 2300 mg of the mineral per day. A high dose of sodium affects calcium absorption, which can lead to osteoporosis.
