How Do I Lower My Cholesterol? Common Ways to Know

Eliminate trans fats

Trans fats are known to increase the level of “bad” cholesterol and lower “good” cholesterol in the body. They are mostly seen in fried foods and commercially packaged baked products, like crackers and cookies. In 2013, the FDA issued a warning against trans fats in 2013. This led to a decrease in the quantity of trans fats in foods across the country. According to studies, the manufactured variety of trans fats in packaged foods, known as partially hydrogenated oils are not “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS). It is important to check the list of ingredients on any packaged food you choose. Ensure the trans fat percentage in the food is zero and that there is no hydrogenated oil in the ingredient list.
