How to Identify Insect (Bug) Bites?

Fire Ant Bites

You might be familiar with the fire ant. As the name suggests, they hostile black or red ants with a noxious bite. A burning or stinging sensation accompanies a bite from a fire ant [5]. This is because fire ants sting rather than bite.

Stings from fire ants present as a swollen red wound, welts, or bumps usually contain pus. Within a day or two, the bumps develop blisters on the surface, some of which may remain for up to eight days.

Wounds from fire ant bites can be treated with cold compresses and antihistamines. Some individuals have a strong allergic reaction to fire ant bites, in which case some or all of the following symptoms follow the bite: excessive swelling, difficulty in breathing, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness. Immediate medical attention is required if one has any of these symptoms after being bitten by a fire ant.
