Bartter’s Syndrome

Bartter’s syndrome is a rare inherited condition that affects the cells in the part of the kidney that reabsorbs electrolytes (loop of henle). It is usually accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • Frequent need to drink and urinate
  • High urine prostaglandin levels
  • Potassium wasting
  • Hypochloremia and chemotherapy
  • Low blood chloride levels
  • Metabolic alkalosis [3] (high blood pH)
  • High aldosterone secretion [4]
  • Normal blood pressure
  • High blood renin levels
