Number of Calories for Men
The recommended number of calories for men is higher than that of female due to the amount of energy expended by them. According to NHS [3], the number of calories to be taken in by men per day between the ages of 26-45 should be around 2,500.
Active men would need between 2,800 – 3,000 [4] calories a day to maintain their body weight. Younger men [5] between the ages of 19 – 25 also have a higher calorie need of 2,800 per day.
Between ages 46-65 [6], calorie needs begin to decrease. This age group is advised to consume 2,400 calories a day. For ages above 66 years [7], calorie intake should decrease further to 2,200 per day.
