Surprising Benefits and Uses of Myrrh Oil

Help Fight Parasitic Infections

The potency of myrrh as an anti-parasitic drug has been tested in different scientific studies. Myrrh was administered orally to seven patients who had fascioliasis [10] in one study. Fascioliasis is a disease of the liver and bile caused by the parasite Fasciola sp. Myrrh was effective in relieving the patients of their symptoms and Fasciola eggs could not be detected in their stools after three months.

A preliminary study [11] examined the effects of Mirazid, a drug made of myrrh sap and its oil, in women who had trichomoniasis infections that had failed to respond to normal treatment. It was effective in curing the infections of around 85 percent of them. In another study [12] on animals, this drug was also effective in treating giardiasis, an intestinal infection caused by parasites.

These reports suggest that myrrh oil has anti-parasitic properties and may be useful in treating even drug-resistant parasitic infections.
