What Is Brilinta and the Basics?
Brilinta is a medication prescribed by your doctor if he observes that you are at risk of blood clots. The primary purpose of the drug is to help reduce the chances of sine blood clots and heart problems in adults that have certain health conditions, such as:
- ACS and a stent placed in one or more heart blood vessels
- Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) [1] or had a heart attack in the past
- Coronary artery disease and a high risk of heart attack [2] or stroke
- Ischemic attack or a transient ischemic attack
Brilinta is a tablet that is taken by mouth. A generic form of brilliant has been approved, although it may not be available at your pharmacy just yet. Brilinta contains an active drug called ticagrelor. It belongs to a class of antiplatelet drugs; these are a group of drugs that work the same way. Antiplatelet medications are a type of blood thinner. Brilinta is not an anticoagulant drug.
