Warnings

There are certain things to take note of when using bupropion. These warnings will help avoid complications.

  • Allergy: Bupropion can cause allergic reactions, such as rash, fever, swelling of the lips or tongues, troubled breathing, and itching. Don’t continue the usage of the drugs if a reaction occurs because it can lead to death.
  • Alcohol Interaction: If you take drinks that contain alcohols often, it can increase the risk of seizures. Talk to your doctor before the usage of the drug if you fall into this condition.
  • Health Issues: Bupropion should not be taken by people with some health issues, such as people with eating disorders like bulimia or anorexia, [2] bipolar disorders, [3] angle-closure glaucoma [4] (a condition where the fluid is blocked and is unable to flow out of the eye, causing a quick severe eye pressure and which leads to loss of vision). The dosage of the drugs can be reduced or regulated when the patients have health issues like liver disease, kidney disease in order to regulate the interactions with the other drugs being taken by the patients.
  • Pregnant Women: Research has shown that this drug may have adverse effects on the fetus when consumed by the mother. Hence, talk to your doctor in order to get the right prescription that won’t put the mother and child at risk.
  • Breastfeeding Mothers: If this tablet is used during breast-feeding, it can be passed to the child through the milk. Therefore, it is better to ask your doctor for the best action to take.
  • High Blood Pressure: The doctor should be very observant with the blood pressure of the patient because bupropion can increase the risk of high blood pressure. [5]
  • Seizures: The use of this tablet increases the risk of seizures. Therefore, it should be discussed with your doctor of any underlying medical conditions and the drugs being used in order for the proper dosage to be advised.
