Psoriatic Arthritis Medication: Pain Relief and Natural Remedies

Biologics

If you are unable to suppress your immune, you may need to take a biologic. They are recently developed types of DMARDs. They don’t rein the immune system, but they inactivate a protein that cause inflammation. Examples are: abatacept (orencia), adalimumab (Humira), adalimumab-atto (amgevita), a biosimilar to Humira, certolizumab pegol (cimzia), etanercept (Enbrel), golimumab (Simponi), guselkumab (tremfya), infliximab (remicade), risankizumab-Rzaa (skyrizi) tofacitinib (xeljanz), ustekinumab (stelara) and etanercept-szzs (erelzi) that works like Enbrel.

You can use biologics as shot under your skin, but in some cases, you will need to go to your doctor’s office to get the medicine through your vein. In some cases, you will need to take methotrexate.

Biologics have positive effects on your health but they also have their cons. They are expensive and they also have side effects and risks. Some people might fee dizzy, or feel feverish. In some cases, you might have a reaction where you get your shot.

They can also reduce the activity of your immune system. You must let your doctor know when you are using so you can know if you get a flu or another infection. Your doctor will test for you tuberculosis (TB) before beginning your biologic and checked while you are on it. Some people might get tested for hepatitis B [5] and C.

Studies show that a biologic might make you more susceptible to lymphoma, a blood cancer, but it is not common.
