Enzyme Inhibitor and Steroids

Apremilast (otezla) is a new type of drug for long-term inflammation conditions such as psoriatic arthritis. It is a medication that operates by impeding a certain enzyme, a type of protein known as PDE-4. It is used to reduce other reactions that cause inflammation. People using this drug tend to lose weight, so they need to be properly monitored by doctors. Other potential negative effects of this drug are diarrhea, nausea, headache and mood changes or depression.
Corticosteroids are potent anti-inflammatory drugs that reduce the pain and swelling. They are administered through the mouth or directly into the joint or muscle. They are different from the anabolic steroids used to build muscles.
Prednisone is a popular steroid. It should be used for a short period, but it can exacerbate skin rash. Doctors recommend steroids [6] only when they are compulsory. If they are sued frequently it can have negative effects such as weak bones, weight gain, hypertension and diabetes.
