Serious Allergic Reactions and Cancer

Allergic reactions are present with any infusion or injection of Actemra. Serious allergic reactions, even death, occur when using Actemra. These reactions are usually absent at early stages. Patients should tell their doctors about any rash or flushing after any injection. Some allergic reactions can be observed, including chest pain, swelling of the lips, tongue and face, feeling dizzy or faint, mild or serious abdominal pain or vomiting, shortness of breath or breathing difficulties.

Actemra is used to treat “cytokine storm” from a type of cancer immunotherapy. They are also used to reduce the inflammatory response and “Cytokine storm” seen in COVID-19 disease. However, this drug also has the ability to weaken the immune system by reducing its ability to fight infections. Actemra increase the risk of certain cancers by altering the way the immune system works.
