Uses
Stelara can be used to treat several medical conditions. However, doctors will only prescribe it to treat these conditions as approved by the Food and Drug Administration:
- Moderate to severe plaque psoriasis: Stelara is taken to treat this psoriasis in adults and children older than 6 years. It is mainly recommended for patients receiving phototherapy (light therapy) and systemic therapy (medications administered via the mouth or an injection).
- Psoriatic arthritis: Stelara is taken by adults diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. It can be administered alone or mixed with a medication known as methotrexate.
- Mild to severe Crohn’s disease: Stelara is approved by the FDA to treat mild and severe cases of Crohn’s disease in adults.
- Mild to severe ulcerative colitis: Doctors prescribe this drug for patients (adults) with mild or severe ulcerative colitis.[6]
