Interactions of temazepam

Drug interactions can change how your medicines work or increase the risk of having a serious side effect. Do not start, stop or alter the dosage of any medicine without your doctor’s approval. The most common product that can interact with temazepam is sodium oxybate.
Temazepam can interact with other drugs, vitamins, or herbs you may be taking. An interaction is when a substance alters the way a medication function.
The risk of having severe side effects (such as slow or shallow breathing, severe drowsiness/dizziness) can be increased if the medication is taken with other products that may cause drowsiness or breathing problems. People taking products such as opioid pain or cough relievers (such as codeine, hydrocodone), alcohol, marijuana (cannabis), other drugs for sleep or anxiety (such as alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants [6] (such as carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine) or antihistamines (such as cetirizine, diphenhydramine).
Examples of drugs that can increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness are:
- Phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, fluphenazine, promethazine, and thioridazine.
- Barbiturates, such as amobarbital, butabarbital and pentobarbital
- Sedatives or hypnotics such as eszopiclone, zaleplon, and zolpidem
- Sedative antihistamines such as brompheniramine, chlorpheniramine, dimenhydrinate, diphenhydramine and doxylamine
- Anesthetics such as etomidate, propofol, and ketamine
- Antidepressants such as fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and nefazodone
- Narcotic analgesics such as buprenorphine, tapentadol, tramadol, fentanyl, hydromorphone, methadone, and oxycodone.
Using temazepam with certain drugs puts you at serious risk of severe drowsiness, slowed breathing, coma, or death. Doctors advise patients not to take temazepam if they have ever had an allergic reaction to it. taking it again could lead to death.
You should not take temazepam oral capsules unless you are able to stay in bed and get a full night’s sleep (7-8 hours) before you get active again. Temazepam should only be taken right before going to bed.
Taking drinks that contain alcohol can elevate the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, confusion, and sleepwalking. Do not take temazepam if you drink alcohol.
