Signs and Symptoms of Osteoarthritis

Pain

Pain is the most defining symptom of osteoarthritis [3], affecting many people with the condition. The pain usually affects the muscles in the tissues surrounding the affected joints. It could also occur due to inflammation of the joints, bony growths, the impact of bare-bones grinding against each other, or pinched nerve cells. Pinched nerve cells are caused by displacement and inflammation of the joint tissue.

Osteoarthritis pain typically intensifies after a period of sleep or inactivity. The pain is most severe when a person with the condition moves about and is less when the joints are at rest. As the condition progresses, you may start to feel pain even when your joints are at rest.
