Signs and Symptoms of Asperger’s Syndrome

Repetitive behavior

Engaging in repetitive behaviors is a common symptom of ASD. It may include doing the same thing at a certain time interval. Examples include doing something before bedtime, spinning an object a certain number of times, or opening a door in a specific technique.

Note that engaging in repetitive behavior doesn’t mean that the individual has AS. Several disorders could result in repetitive behavior apart from AS. One of the conditions that are characterized by repetitive behaviors is Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Conditions like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) may also result in repetitive behavior. Often people with AS usually insist on sameness, and they stick to inflexibility to routines. Note that some individuals may perform physical actions like repetitive rocking, flicking, or pacing.
