Bursitis – Diagnosis and Treatments

X-ray, Ultrasound or Magnetic Resonance Imaging test (MRI)

An X-ray of the affected region is taken. Taking the X-ray of the affected area may not necessarily establish the diagnosis of bursitis; instead is to get more detailed knowledge about what could be the cause. Through the X-ray, you can check for arthritis or abnormal areas known as bony spurs. X-rays would help to rule out the possibilities of other conditions.

An ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging test (MRI) is another test that may also be carried out if bursitis cannot easily be diagnosed after the conduction of the physical exam. An MRI test is usually carried out to detect if the bursae are swollen or any form of inflammation in the area. This test would help the doctor in making a better diagnosis.
