Atopic Dermatitis(Eczema) Symptoms

Symptoms According to Phases of Development

Each phase of Atopic dermatitis is characterized by the presence of itching of varying intensity. But the overall manifestation of symptoms may be different.

Atopic dermatitis can be classified based on three stages.[2]

  • Infantile stage (up to 2 years old).
  • Prepubertal stage (2 to 12 years old).
  • Adult stage (from 12 years old).

The clinical manifestation of Eczema according to the stage of the disease are explained below;

Infantile phase (from Birth to 2 Years)

Redness and small blisters appear on the skin, from which a bloody fluid is released when pressed. The dried liquid turns into yellowish-brown crusts. Itching may be worse at night. Frequent scratching because of itching results in marks and cracks on the skin. Symptoms most often appear on the face, can be on the arms and legs (in the elbow and popliteal folds), buttocks. [3]

Also, we must not forget that the skin of children, especially under the age of 2 years, is quite delicate and vulnerable. It is especially acutely susceptible to the effects of seemingly simple and completely insignificant factors such as overheating or cold, warm air, and humidity.
