Keratitis: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

Noninfectious keratitis

Keratitis can also be gotten from noninfectious ways, some of which include:

  • eye injury, such as a scratch
  • a weakened immune system
  • wearing your contacts too long
  • wearing your contacts while swimming
  • using extended-wear contacts
  • living in a warm climate, which increases the risk of plant materials damaging your cornea
  • exposure to intense sunlight, called photo keratitis

If you start treatment early, you’ll likely start feeling better after one or two days, whether it is anti-infective medication you are taking or other treatment. Recovery will take longer for more severe cases.
