Magnesium

Magnesium plays an important role in muscle function. This is why it is often recommended in the treatment of leg cramps, both topically (as in Epsom salt baths) and orally. Research has suggested [6] that magnesium may be useful in treating muscle cramps in pregnant women.
If you often have leg cramps not caused by any underlying health condition, it may be because you need more magnesium in your diet. This electrolyte can be gotten naturally from many foods, especially nuts.
It is preferable to stick to dietary sources of magnesium instead of supplements. If you’re considering supplements, you should speak to your doctor first, especially if you are pregnant.
