5 Common Symptoms of Tetanus(Lockjaw)

Fever and Sweating or Abdominal Muscle Hardening

A fever is an abnormally high body temperature. It is usually caused by immunological reactions to infections and foreign invaders. If you have a tetanus infection, you may experience fever [6] as your body tries to fight the bacteria responsible. Sometimes this fever is accompanied by periods of profuse sweating.

Once tetanus has spread, it affects the muscles in several parts of the body. If it affects the muscles in the abdomen, it can cause them to harden. In some cases, it results in very painful cramps in the stomach that can be mistaken for other conditions.

In one case study [7], a 67-year-old man presented at a hospital with acute abdominal pain and stiffness. The doctors mistook it for other abdominal problems and conducted many tests before diagnosing him of tetanus infection.
