8 Home Remedies for Muscle Cramps

Stretching

Stretching the affected muscle can help improve or stop the spasm from occurring. The kind of stretch you do depends on the area that is affected. For example, certain stretching exercises help to treat muscle cramps in your thighs, but cannot help to treat muscle cramps in the back, neck, and calves.

Stretches for Calf Muscle Spasms

Steps for the First Stretch

  • Lie down, and stretch your leg by pointing or pulling your toes towards your head. (Pointing your toes towards your head is known as dorsiflexion).
  • Hold your leg in a stretched position for a few seconds or until the spasm stops.
  • Then, use a strap or belt looped around your foot to gently pull the top of your foot towards you.

This stretch also helps relieve muscle spasm.
