10 Common Symptoms of Gluten Intolerance

Skin Problems & Muscle Pain

The form of gluten intolerance known as celiac disease can manifest as a skin disease known as Dermatitis herpetiformis [3]. This condition causes blisters to appear on the skin. Sometimes, when people with gluten intolerance go on a gluten-free diet, they can experience some skin conditions like psoriasis which causes scaling and reddening of the skin, Alopecia areata that causes hair loss, chronic urticaria characterized by itchy, red lesions with pale centers on the skin and many other skin problems.

Some people who have gluten intolerance also experience joint and muscle pains. This may be caused by inflammation triggered by gluten exposure which leads to pain in the muscle, joints and other parts of the body. This symptom is actually present in many people who suffer from gluten insensitivity. Some research reports claim that people who are gluten intolerant experience this pain because they have an easily excitable or over-sensitive nervous system, so it is easy to activate the pain neurons in their joints and muscles.
