Mushrooms

Mushrooms are generally known to contain antioxidants that help protect the body against the destruction of free radicals that may lead to cancer or heart disease. Besides, mushrooms synthesize vitamin D when exposed to UV rays [3]. They contain vitamin D2, which helps raise blood levels. However, this vitamin is not as effective as vitamin D3. Commercial brands of mushroom growing in the dark and treated with UV light usually contain between 130 to 450 IU of vitamin DC PER 100 grams. On the other hand, wild mushrooms contain 2,300 IU vitamins per 100 grams.
