Worse Food Choices
Chocolate

Chocolate is characterized by compounds that prevent the contraction of the LES sphincter in the stomach. They are also known to cause acid reflux. These compounds enhance gastric reflux (gastroesophageal reflux) and irritate the membranes of the esophagus. Reflux causes heartburn in the chest cavity, which leads to heartburn. Patients diagnosed with hiatal hernia are always advised to stay away from chocolates to prevent worsening of the symptom.
Bread
One of the common symptoms of hiatal hernia is gastric acid reflux. These foods containing refined grain fiber, such as bread, aggravate acid reflux because they have little fiber. Fibers in fine-grain foods contain compounds that aggravate acid reflux. Excess consumption of bread by a patient can lead to other medical conditions. Doctors usually advise patients with hiatal hernia to consume whole grain bread and stay away from refined grain bread.
