Medicare Prescription Drug Plans

What Do Medicare Prescription Drug Plans Cover?

When you get enrolled into a Medicare prescription drug plan, a list of generic and brand name drugs to be covered is made. This list is called a drug formulary. A formulary is divided into about 4 tiers with each tiers containing some kind of drugs. Drugs in lower tiers cost less than those in higher tiers. Different Medicare prescription drug plans have different formulas. Vaccines that are not covered by original Medicare are also covered.

Some medications covered may include the following:

  • Immunosuppressive drugs
  • Antipsychotics [3]
  • Drugs for the treatment of cancers
  • HIV medication
