Understanding Extra Help Medicare

What cost does Medicare Extra Help cover?

You are only eligible for Medicare prescription drug coverage, also called Medicare Part D [1] if you have Medicare. However, there are costs associated with this prescription drug coverage, such as deductibles and copays. This is where you might need Medicare Extra Help.

Medicare Extra Help is most recommended if you have limited income and savings. It would help cover prescription drug copays and prescription plan premiums.

If you qualify for Medicare Extra Help, it may offer assistance of up to $4,900 annually. Although the coverage is limited to prescription drugs only. If you need assistance with other parts of Medicare, like Medicare Part A [2] which involves hospital care coverage, and Medicare Part B which involves outpatient care coverage there are other programs funded by some states you can sign up for that may help assist you.

It is important to know that Medicare Extra Help does not apply to Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) [3] or Medigap programs.
