Symptoms of Trichomoniasis

The reason for the easy and fast spread of trich is that a large number of infected people, up to 70% never show any symptoms. Therefore, one may have infected others before they find out they have the disease. When symptoms occur, they tend to appear within 5 to 28 days after exposure. Symptoms are more common among women or people AFAB. Researchers are not totally sure why some people have symptoms and others don’t.

Signs of Trichomoniasis in females and People Assigned Male at Birth (AFAB)

Women and people assigned female at birth tend to have more noticeable symptoms than men. Some of them are:

  • Irritation, soreness or redness around the opening of the vagina
  • Thin (or something foamy) white, yellow or greenish vaginal discharge that has a bad odor
  • Pain or discomfort during intercourse or when urinating
