What Do You Know about Empliciti?

Empliciti also known as elotuzumab is a brand name prescription drug. It is made specifically to treat a type of blood cancer known as multiple myeloma in adults. Empliciti belongs to a class of drugs called monoclonal antibodies which are a type of immunotherapy. Monoclonal antibodies are drugs that are made in a lab for immune system cells. Just like any other monoclonal antibodies, Empliciti works by activating your immune system and making your immune cells stronger in order to be able to fight infections better.

Empliciti is not available in a biosimilar form, which is generic drugs (non-biological drugs). Empliciti comes in powder usually in single dose vials but is made into a liquid solution. The drug also helps to direct your immune system [1] to the exact part of the body that the multiple myeloma [2] cells are, so that they can be destroyed. The drug is to be administered by a medical doctor, it is mostly given as an intravenous (IV) infusion, that is, as an injection into your vein.
