Alcohol
Excess consumption of alcohol may cause inflammation of the intestines, leading to organ damage, high blood pressure, stroke, liver problems, and heart diseases. Studies have shown that too much alcohol may lead to at least six types of cancers. [4]
Processed Meat
- Hot Dog
Hotdogs have high-fat content, mainly unsaturated, which makes them pro-inflammation. Hotdogs can clog arteries and spike LDL cholesterol levels. So, regular consumption may cause an unhealthy fat and sodium level in the body, leading to heart diseases, diabetes, and cancer.
- Bacon
Bacon promotes inflammation by introducing an organic substance into the stomach, called nitrosamine, which prevents the bowel lining cells from functioning properly. These substances are carcinogenic, which means they promote the development of cancer cells. Bacon contains saturated fats, which increases cholesterol levels and causes heart problems.
- Sausage
Sausage, like other processed meats, contains advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), which are formed after they’ve been exposed to heat. AGEs trigger inflammations in the body. Regular consumption of sausage may cause diabetes, heart problems, and cancer. [5]
- Pepperoni
Pepperoni is processed meat packed full of sugar and special additives that are unhealthy for the body. The production process results in advanced glycation end products, which cause inflammation, and the sugar and saturated fats may lead to diabetes and high cholesterol if consumed often.
