Apple Cider Vinegar Diet: Pros, Cons and More

Cons of Taking Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar also has some negative side effects, but serious side effects are usually only seen in people who consume excess amounts of it.

Dental Erosion

Human studies on the effects of apple cider vinegar on the teeth are limited but studies have reported that long-term consumption of apple cider vinegar may cause tooth erosion. This is likely because vinegar is acidic. Highly acidic foods have long been found to increase the likelihood of tooth decay by eroding the enamel.

In one case study [7], a teenager trying to lose weight suffered very bad tooth decay after consuming a glass of vinegar every day. The evidence for this case is weak but regular consumption of apple cider vinegar does real damage to the teeth. The damage, however, is likely more gradual.
