Onions

Onions are a member of the Allium genus family. They have numerous health benefits. Studies show that a rich diet that contains veggies, like onions may help keep the arteries healthy.
A 15-year study that followed 1,226 women older than 70 showed that people who take high levels of allium vegetables such as onions were less susceptible to diseases related to atherosclerosis.
Onions contain high levels of sulfur compounds. Scientists believe that sulfur compounds may prevent blood vessel inflammation, prevent the clumping together of platelets [1] in the blood, and boost the availability of nitric oxide.
All these effects are known to prevent atherosclerosis and improve artery health.
